Ingredients

For the Apple Filling
  • 3 cups peeled and diced apples Use a mix of tart and sweet apples, such as Granny Smith and Honeycrisp.
  • 4 tablespoons sugar Adjust to taste for a sweeter filling.
  • 4 teaspoons all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon Feel free to add nutmeg or ginger for variation.
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
For the Egg Rolls
  • 12 pieces egg roll wrappers
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
  • Caramel sauce for dipping or drizzling (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Combine diced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice in a bowl. Mix well to make the apple pie filling.
  2. Lay an egg roll wrapper out in a diamond shape. Place 2 heaping tablespoons of the apple filling towards the bottom third of the wrapper.
  3. Fold the bottom corner up over the filling, then fold in both sides and continue rolling it up into a tight log shape.
  4. Use a dab of water to seal the edge and secure the roll closed.
Cooking
  1. Heat 2 to 3 inches of oil to 350 degrees F in a heavy-bottomed pan, pot, or deep fryer.
  2. Carefully add 2 to 3 egg rolls at a time to the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd. Fry for 4 to 5 minutes until golden brown, turning occasionally.
  3. Transfer the crispy apple pie egg rolls to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. Dust warm egg rolls with powdered sugar if desired and serve with caramel sauce for dipping.

Notes

Best served warm with a light dusting of powdered sugar. Pair with vanilla ice cream for an indulgent dessert experience. To store, keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat in the oven or air fryer.
