Preparation
- Preheat the oven according to the cake mix instructions. Grease and flour your cake pan.
- Prepare the chocolate cake batter using the box mix according to the package instructions.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter and add the caramels and evaporated milk, stirring until smooth.
Assembly
- Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan.
- Drizzle the caramel mixture over the batter and sprinkle with chopped pecans and chocolate chips.
- Pour the remaining cake batter over the top, covering the caramel layer.
Baking
- Bake as directed on the cake mix box, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before serving.
Notes
Serve slices warm or at room temperature. A scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream pairs beautifully. Store the cooled cake covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days. Individual slices can be frozen for up to 2 months.
