Ingredients

Salmon and Marinade
  • 4 pieces salmon fillets Choose high-quality, fresh salmon.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar You can substitute with coconut sugar.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Coconut aminos can be used for a gluten-free option.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Vegetable oil can be substituted.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green onions or sesame seeds for garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, soy sauce, minced garlic, and ginger. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to absorb those wonderful flavors.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  2. Add the salmon fillets to the skillet, skin-side down. Season with salt and pepper, and cook for about 4-5 minutes until the edges start to turn golden brown.
  3. Carefully flip the salmon and pour some of the remaining marinade over the top. Cook for another 4-5 minutes until the salmon is cooked through and easily flakes with a fork.
  4. Remove the salmon from the skillet and drizzle with any leftover glaze from the pan. Garnish with chopped green onions or sesame seeds.

Notes

Consider squeezing fresh lemon or lime juice over the top before serving for a zesty kick. For a spicy upgrade, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade.
