For the toppings
  • 1 cup imitation crab meat For classic California roll flavor, real crab can also be used.
  • 1 ripe avocado Creamy and rich, perfect for adding depth.
  • 1 cucumber Thinly sliced for crunch; other veggies can be substituted.
  • sesame seeds For garnish.
  • soy sauce and spicy mayo Optional condiments to elevate your bowls.

Method
 

Rice Preparation
  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Combine rinsed rice and water in a rice cooker and cook according to instructions or boil on stovetop, then lower heat and simmer for 15 minutes until tender.
Season the Rice
  1. Transfer the cooked rice into a large bowl.
  2. Mix together rice vinegar, sugar, and a pinch of salt until dissolved and fold into the warm rice.
Prepare Toppings
  1. Shred the imitation crab meat with your hands.
  2. Slice the avocado and cucumber into thin pieces.
Assemble the Bowls
  1. Scoop a generous amount of seasoned rice into serving bowls.
  2. Top with shredded crab, avocado slices, and cucumber.
Finish and Serve
  1. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top and drizzle with soy sauce and spicy mayo as preferred.
