Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cups frozen French fries Use a sturdier cut like wedges or crinkle-cut.
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup Can substitute with cream of onion or cream of cheddar.
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Pickles (optional, for topping)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the browned beef, cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Layering
  1. In a greased casserole dish, layer half of the frozen French fries.
  2. Spread the beef mixture over the fries, then top with the remaining fries.
  3. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  2. Optional: Add pickles on top before serving for extra flavor.

Notes

Drain the cooked beef well to prevent the casserole from becoming soggy. For extra flavor, stir a teaspoon of mustard or a splash of Worcestershire sauce into the beef mixture. If you like a crispier top, turn the oven to broil for 1–2 minutes at the end, watching closely to avoid burning.
