Preparation
- In a medium saucepan, combine the water and butter. Heat over medium until the butter is melted, and the mixture is bubbling.
- Remove from heat and quickly stir in the flour and salt until well combined. The dough should form a ball and pull away from the sides of the pan.
- Let the mixture cool for a few minutes. Once cool enough to handle, add the eggs one at a time, stirring vigorously after each addition until the mixture is smooth.
- Add vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper.
- Pipe small bite-sized churros onto the parchment, leaving space between each.
- Spray or brush the churro bites lightly with cooking spray or oil to ensure a crisp finish.
Cooking
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Cook the churro bites in batches for around 8-10 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- While the churros are still warm, toss them in a mixture of granulated sugar and cinnamon for that iconic churro finish.
Notes
For chocolate-covered churros, dip in melted chocolate after cooling. For a seasonal treat, add pumpkin spice to the sugar. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days and reheated in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for about 3 minutes.
