  • 3-4 lbs chuck roast Budget-friendly cut of beef.
  • 1 packet French Onion soup mix
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 6-8 pieces toasted rolls Use for serving.
  • Sliced provolone cheese Optional topping.
  • Black pepper To taste.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Place the chuck roast in the slow cooker.
  2. In a bowl, mix the French Onion soup mix, beef broth, and water. Pour over the roast.
  3. Season with black pepper to taste.
Cooking
  1. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the meat is tender.
  2. Shred the meat and serve on toasted rolls, topped with provolone cheese if desired.
  3. Serve warm with the broth for dipping.

Notes

For enhanced flavor, consider searing the chuck roast before placing it in the slow cooker. Adjust seasoning as desired and try adding garlic or onion powder. If short on time, you can cook on high for 4-5 hours.
