- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a drizzle of oil and the chopped onion. Cook until translucent and the edges begin to caramelize — about 3 to 4 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and bell pepper. Stir for 30 to 60 seconds until the garlic becomes fragrant.
- Crumble in the ground beef and let it sear for a minute without stirring. Break the meat apart and continue to cook until no pink remains.
- Sprinkle in smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir to coat the beef with the spices.
- Pour in the diced tomatoes and Worcestershire sauce. Stir and let simmer gently for 5 to 8 minutes.
- If using, fold in cooked rice or pasta. Adjust seasoning. For an indulgent finish, sprinkle shredded cheese over and cover to melt.
- Finish with a scatter of chopped parsley or cilantro.

For a healthier option, substitute half the beef with ground turkey or lentils. For a festive twist, add cinnamon and allspice.
