Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 slices thick-cut sourdough bread
  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened Let the butter soften at room temperature for maximum flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adjust according to preference for more flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano (or parsley) Use fresh herbs for a more vibrant flavor.
  • 4 slices cheese (e.g., cheddar or mozzarella) Experiment with different types of cheese for varied textures.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, minced garlic, and dried oregano.
  3. Spread the garlic butter mixture on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
Cooking
  1. Place two slices of bread butter-side-down in the skillet.
  2. Add a slice of cheese on each piece of bread, then top with the remaining pieces of bread, butter-side-up.
  3. Cook until golden brown on one side, about 3-4 minutes, then flip and cook the other side until crispy and the cheese is melted.
  4. Remove from the skillet, cut in half, and serve warm.

Notes

Best enjoyed straight from the skillet while the cheese is still melty. Consider serving with tomato soup or a fresh salad. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days; reheat in a skillet or panini press.
