Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef (85/15) Use leaner for a lighter option.
  • 1 small onion, finely diced Swap with shallots for milder sweetness.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Add one more clove if you love garlic.
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Optional but flavorful.
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika Or regular paprika.
  • 4-6 slices cheddar cheese Or provolone, Swiss, or pepper jack for a spicy kick.
  • 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough or puff pastry For an indulgent vibe, use buttery puff pastry.
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped Or 1 teaspoon dried.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For the butter glaze (optional).
Optional Toppings
  • sesame seeds
  • diced pickles
  • drizzle of ketchup or mustard After baking.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a medium skillet over medium heat, add a drizzle of oil and cook the diced onion until translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Sprinkle in salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Cook until browned and no pink remains, about 6–8 minutes.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and Worcestershire sauce, cooking just 30–60 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  6. Unroll the crescent dough or lay out puff pastry and divide into 6–8 rectangles.
  7. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture along each piece and top with a generous slice of cheese. Roll up tightly, sealing the edges.
  8. Arrange the rollups seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
Baking
  1. In a small bowl, whisk melted butter with garlic powder and chopped parsley. Brush each rollup generously with the garlic butter.
  2. Bake for 18–22 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and deep golden and the cheese is melted.
  3. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a healthier option, choose whole-wheat pastry or low-fat cheese. To store leftovers, keep in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze unbaked rollups for up to 2 months.
