Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add molasses, egg, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add in the dry ingredients until combined.
- Chill the dough for about 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
Baking
- Scoop out dough and roll into balls, then roll in powdered sugar.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set and the tops are cracked.
- Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.
Notes
Serve warm or at room temperature. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Chilling the dough is crucial for best results.
