Ingredients

For the Sliders
  • 12 pieces soft slider rolls or dinner rolls Use whole-grain rolls for a healthier option.
  • 12 ounces thinly sliced ham (about 8-10 slices) Smoked ham for deeper flavor, or turkey slices for a lighter touch.
  • 10 ounces Swiss cheese, sliced Substitute Gruyere for nuttier notes, or provolone/cheddar for sharper taste.
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted Browned butter adds a lovely nutty aroma.
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard Swap for honey mustard for a sweeter finish.
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (optional) Sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning are great twists.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder Fresh minced garlic works too; toast briefly in the butter.
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the slider rolls horizontally, keeping them attached in one loaf if possible.
  3. Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on the bottom halves of the rolls.
  4. Layer the ham evenly over the mustarded bottoms.
  5. Top with slices of Swiss cheese, covering the ham.
  6. Replace the top halves of the rolls, pressing down gently.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, garlic powder, and poppy seeds. Brush this mixture over the top of the rolls.
  8. Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake an additional 3-5 minutes until the tops are golden.
  10. Garnish with chopped parsley, slice into individual portions, and serve hot.

Notes

Feel free to mix ham varieties for tailored flavor. For a vegetarian version, replace ham with roasted mushrooms or grilled eggplant and use a sharp cheese.
