Main ingredients
  • 9 pieces lasagna noodles Cook according to package directions
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey Substitute with vegetarian options if desired
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 oz marinara sauce Choose your favorite brand or homemade
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg For binding
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese Can use low-fat if preferred
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • for garnish Fresh parsley Chopped, for serving

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or turkey with chopped onion and garlic until browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in the marinara sauce and let simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
Assembly
  1. Start layering in a baking dish: spread a layer of meat sauce, then add a layer of noodles, followed by a layer of the ricotta mixture, then mozzarella cheese.
  2. Repeat layers ending with meat sauce and mozzarella cheese on top.
  3. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top of the last layer.
Baking
  1. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  2. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  3. Let it sit for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave or bake at 350°F (175°C) until heated through. For freezing, wrap tightly and thaw overnight before reheating.
