Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed (the riper, the better!) The darker the banana, the sweeter and more flavorful it will be.
  • 1/3 cup melted butter Melt in the microwave or on the stovetop.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda Ensures the bread rises properly.
  • 1 pinch salt Balances the sweetness.
  • 3/4 cup sugar Can be reduced for a less sweet option.
  • 1 large egg, beaten Acts as a binder.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds flavor.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Main structure ingredient.
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans Feel free to use your favorite nuts.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 4×8-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, melt the butter in the microwave or on the stovetop.
  3. Once melted, add the mashed bananas to the bowl, mixing gently until combined.
  4. Stir in baking soda and salt, ensuring the dry ingredients are evenly distributed.
  5. Add in the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract, mixing until just combined.
  6. Lastly, gently fold in the flour until no dry streaks remain, being careful not to overmix.
  7. If you’re using nuts, now’s the time to fold them into the batter.
  8. Pour your batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for about 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Allow the banana nut bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For variations, consider adding dark chocolate chips, use whole wheat flour, or replace some sugar with honey or maple syrup. Serve warm with butter and enjoy with coffee or tea.
