  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 10 oz linguine
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced Freshly minced for best flavor
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar Adjust sweetness to taste
  • 1/4 cup beef broth Use low-sodium if preferred
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce Use gluten-free tamari for a gluten-free option
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper Freshly ground for best flavor
  • pinch red pepper flakes Optional for heat
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch To thicken the sauce
  • 2 tablespoons water For the cornstarch slurry
  • 4 green onions, sliced for garnish For serving

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Cook the linguine according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the brown sugar, beef broth, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ground ginger, ground black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Mix well.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Add to the skillet and stir until the sauce thickens, about 2–3 minutes.
  5. Add the cooked linguine to the skillet and toss until well coated in the sauce.
  6. Garnish with sliced green onions and serve hot.

Notes

Serve with steamed or stir-fried vegetables like broccoli or snap peas. Can also include a side of pickled cucumbers or steamed rice. Offer chili oil or extra red pepper flakes for those who prefer more heat.
