Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, combine flour and baking soda; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt until creamy, about 2 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually blend in the flour mixture until fully incorporated.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
Baking
  1. Use a tablespoon to drop dough balls onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  3. Allow the cookies to cool on the sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For a twist, swap semi-sweet chocolate chips for dark chocolate or try adding caramel bits. Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze them separated by parchment paper for longer storage.
