Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix melted butter with granulated sugar until well combined.
  4. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth and glossy.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until combined, taking care not to overmix.
  6. Cover the bowl and chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes.
  7. Scoop the dough using a tablespoon and roll into balls, then coat each in powdered sugar.
Baking
  1. Place the coated balls on a lined baking sheet, about 2 inches apart.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the tops are crinkled.
  3. Let them sit for a couple of minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool.

Notes

These cookies can be fun to customize – try adding red, white, and blue sprinkles or a teaspoon of orange zest for a citrus twist. They are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored for up to a week in an airtight container.
