Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix melted butter with granulated sugar until well combined.
- Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth and glossy.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until combined, taking care not to overmix.
- Cover the bowl and chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes.
- Scoop the dough using a tablespoon and roll into balls, then coat each in powdered sugar.
Baking
- Place the coated balls on a lined baking sheet, about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the tops are crinkled.
- Let them sit for a couple of minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool.
Notes
These cookies can be fun to customize – try adding red, white, and blue sprinkles or a teaspoon of orange zest for a citrus twist. They are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored for up to a week in an airtight container.
