Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, chopped dill, and lemon juice. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  2. Slice the rye bread into small rounds or squares. Toast lightly if desired, or use sturdy crackers.
  3. Spread a generous amount of the cream cheese mixture onto each slice of bread or cracker.
  4. Top each with a slice of smoked salmon.
  5. Garnish with capers or cucumber slices.
  6. Arrange the canapés on a serving platter and serve immediately.

Notes

Best served fresh, but components can be stored separately for up to three days. Assemble just before serving to maintain freshness.
