Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually blend this into the creamed mixture.
  5. Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on a baking sheet.
  6. Use your thumb or the back of a spoon to make an indentation in the center of each ball.
  7. Fill each indentation with a small amount of jam or preserves.
Baking
  1. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  2. Let cool and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Chill the dough briefly if it becomes too soft to shape.
