  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 3 tablespoons sugar Or honey for a less processed substitute.
  • 3/4 cup milk Cow’s milk or any plant-based milk works.
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter Plus extra for dotting.
Topping

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Optional for dessert-style bake.

  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon zest Optional to brighten flavors.

Method

Preparation

  3. Stir in the milk and melted butter until a soft dough forms.
  4. Spoon the jam or pie filling into the bottom of the prepared dish.
  5. Drop tablespoon-sized dumplings of dough over the jam, spacing them so that their edges will touch.
  6. Sprinkle brown sugar and optional spices evenly over the dumplings, and dot with extra butter.
Baking

  2. Let the dish rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For variations, consider adding spices, using herb-infused broth for savory, or making it gluten-free with a substitute flour blend.
